My wild weekend...
On Saturday I had a rehearsal for “Searching for Americana”, the show I’m currently working on at the Hunger Artists. It was just some table work, trying to figure out why my character is so emotionally damaged. Just as I was getting ready to leave, my brother Tirion called me.
My brother is an actor and a stunt/fight coordinator (among other things…). He called to tell me that he was headed to a film shoot in Orange. That was practically on the way home for me, so I met him at the site.
It was a off-season Citrus packing plant near Old Town. The place was cavernous, and chilled to a lovely 55 degrees. Yea!
The film was “Furious Angel”, a student film coming out of nearby Chapman University. Tirion was there to help choreograph a few fight scenes and rig a wire-gag. I helped out and got to hang out with my big brother that I never get to see. I got drafted for the Wire gag. Essentially, we tied a rope to some hapless actor and yanked him backwards 12 feet. Pretty cool. Only problem? I got there shortly after noon, and we didn’t do the wire scene until 3:30 in the morning. I hung around for 15 hours, pretty much doing nothing. I stole Tirion’s camp chair that he brought at one point and had to be woken up because I was snoring. Ah, the magic of the movies.
Still, I got to hang out with my brother, so it was a cool day.
